Senior Advisor on E-Business, Global Digital Economy, and Corporate Governance, The Czech Government.

As a member of prestigious (5 Nobel Winners) Economic Transition Group (ETG) at Stanford University, USA, Val Samonis headed the international research and advisory team which produced a detailed report to the Russian Government on how to solve the problem of bankruptcies, payment arrears, and enterprise strategy/restructuring in that country.

In a related study originated in ETG, he proposed workable ways of developing Russian securities industry (with special reference to derivatives).

The study also presented ways through which Western companies or individuals can trade on the Russian stock market or otherwise establish a foothold in Russia.

As the head of another advisory team, Val Samonis and his associates produced detailed reports on how to improve enterprise governance and finance in Lithuania, other Baltic States, and Ukraine. The effort was sponsored by the European Union and The World Bank and directed by Prof. Leszek Balcerowicz (Polish Deputy PM) and Dr. Cheryl Gray (The World Bank).

For Poland's Ministry of Ownership Changes, Val Samonis produced a consulting study on that country's changing competitive advantage in international markets, based on the theory developed by Harvard's Prof. Michael Porter.

As the Chair, Committee on Foreign Economic Relations, The International Baltic Economic Commission (formed by The Hudson Institute, USA, and Governments of the Baltic States), Val Samonis and his associates produced reports containing specific recommendations on strategies how to open Baltic economies, shape their international trade and investment policies, and begin the process of European integration; many of these recommendations have already been implemented fully or partially.

In 1997-98, Val Samonis has been conducting the internationally acclaimed Research Seminar Series "Frontiers in East-West Business & Emerging Markets" at the University of Toronto, Canada, and served as a Consultant to UNCTAD in respect of The World Investment Reports 1997, 1998, 1999, and 2000.

Since 1998, Val Samonis and his associates are working on comparisons of FDI, e-business, and corporate governance in Europe, North America, and emerging markets.
