John Higgins

CSSA
(in brief)
John Higgins took up the post of Director General of CSSA, the industry association for the UK's software and IT services sector in April 1998. CSSA has over 700 members with a collective turnover of an estimated UK£14bn, representing some 85% of the sector. The association employs around 40 staff.
John is an executive member of the Information Age Partnership, chaired by the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry and was also a member of the Cabinet Office Performance and Innovation Unit's eCommerce steering committee, chaired by Lord Falconer. The Unit produced what has become the blueprint for the UK's eCommerce aspirations; eCommerce @ its.best.uk. John is a Director of the Alliance for Electronic Business, recognised as the voice of UK business on eCommerce policy matters.
In the last two years CSSA has become a recognised force in the industry. The association is particularly focussed on providing the best possible business environment for its members. It leads the industry on issues such as workforce development and skills and, in partnership with bodies such as the CBI, through the Alliance for Electronic Business, is helping to create a world class eCommerce environment in the UK. CSSA also works to ensure that the industry plays its full role in the introduction of eGovernment. It is a vocal advocate of a financial and tax regime that
will allow the industry to deliver maximum benefit to UK PLC. In addition CSSA operates the Software Business Network (sbn), as its business growth service, providing access to money, management and marketing expertise to smaller software businesses. John chairs the Operational Board, which has executive responsibility for sbn.
On January 1st 2000 CSSA took the presidency of the European IT Services Association (EISA) for which John has become Secretary-General in addition to leading on eCommerce issues.
